2.Broccoli

A cruciferous vegetable that comes from the same family as cauliflower, kale, and cabbage.
Right off the bat, broccoli is packed with phytochemicals and antioxidants including glucoraphanin and indole-3-carbinol.
The good news? Both these antioxidants boast the ability to reduce the risk of breast, prostate, gastric and cervical cancer.
But that’s not all! This super green vegetable is also high in sulforaphane, a potent compound supports the body’s protective enzymes and helps flush out cancer-causing chemicals.
Just be sure to become best friends with your broccoli — and oh, the amazing benefits are best raw!

3.Garlic

As with other members of the allium family (say shallots, leek, and onions) garlic is loaded with powerful antioxidants that can facilitate the removal of free radicals from the body.
For the most part, raw garlic can help fight colon, esophageal, stomach and breast cancers.
In addition to battling cancer, garlic can also lower cholesterol levels, reduce blood pressure, boost immunity and improve brain function.
Simply chop a clove of fresh, crushed garlic and add to whatever recipe that tickles your fancy!

4. Berries

We all love eating berries — there’s no doubt about that!
But now you have all the more reason to snack on them every now and then.
Yes, besides being amazingly delicious, berries are rich in cancer-fighting phytonutrients.
So of course, you won’t be wrong to start stocking up on everything from strawberries to blueberries to goji berries and even black raspberries.
Speaking of which, black raspberries contain an incredibly high amount of phytochemicals known as anthocyanins.
Essentially, these phytochemicals inhibit the growth of premalignant cells and prevent the formation of new blood vessels.
To sum it berries are effective in reducing the risk of esophageal, colon, oral and skin cancers.

5. Tomatoes

Why this juicy red fruit? Well, it turns out that tomato is the best dietary source of lycopene — a carotenoid/antioxidant that brings about the red hue.
So yes, lycopene boast the capacity to fight the growth of certain cancers including endometrial cancer — one that’s responsible for up to 8,000 deaths a year!
The antioxidant is also effective in fighting lung, prostate, and stomach cancers.
So how can you get the full benefits of tomatoes? It’s pretty simple — just cook them!
The big idea here is that heat Increases the concentration of lycopene your body is able to absorb.

Walnuts contain phytosterols — cholesterol-like molecules that have been proven to slow down breast cancer cell growth.
What’s more, walnuts can protect against prostate cancer — it’s capable of slowing tumor growth and preventing their development.

Olive Oil is rich in healthy monounsaturated fats therefore it helps keep our cholesterol under control and satisfy carving.

8. Salmon

It is rich in a protective antioxidant, astaxanthin, and it is an excellent source of high-quality protein, vitamins and minerals (including potassium, selenium and vitamin B12). However, it is the content of omega-3 fatty acids in salmon that receives the most attention.

9. Carrots

Several studies have found that eating more carrots is linked to a decreased risk of certain types of cancer.

Carrots was associated with 18% lower odds of developing prostate cancer.

One study analyzed the diets of 1,266 participants with and without lung cancer. It found that current smokers who did not eat carrots were three times as likely to develop lung cancer, compared to those who ate carrots more than once per week.

Try incorporating carrots into your diet as a healthy snack or delicious side dish just a few times per week to increase your intake and potentially reduce your risk of cancer.

Still, remember that these studies show an association between carrot consumption and cancer, but don’t account for other factors that may play a role.

10. Green Tea

Green tea is another food that appears to do double duty when it comes to lung cancer.

Keep in mind that most green tea does have caffeine. If you are sensitive to caffeine or it keeps you awake, you may want to find a caffeine-free variety or concentrate on other items on this list. Also keep in mind that the bottled green tea you find at the store may not be the best choice. Compounds such as ECGC don’t last, and the amount found in most soft drinks is very low.

On a last note, you may want to skip the creamer, as dairy products can combine with and neutralize ECGC. Consider adding a touch of lemon instead, which enhances the absorption of this compound.

11. Beans

Beans are high in fiber, which some studies have found may help protect against colorectal cancer.

One study followed 1,905 people with a history of colorectal tumors, and found that those who consumed more cooked, dried beans tended to have a decreased risk of tumor recurrence.

An animal study also found that feeding rats black beans or navy beans and then inducing colon cancer blocked the development of cancer cells by up to 75%.

According to these results, eating a few servings of beans each week may increase your fiber intake and help lower the risk of developing cancer.

12. Red Grape

Resveratrol, a compound in red wine, has received a lot of attention in recent years, and for good reason.

One of the problems with lung cancer treatment is that cancer cells have a mind of their own. The are “smart” if you will, and become resistant to treatments designed to eliminate them. Thankfully it’s been found that compounds such as resveratrol may sensitize tumors to the effects of treatment.11

With lung cancer, an intake of this nutrient may help to improve the effectiveness of common chemotherapy medications such as Taxol (paclitaxel), Platinol (cisplatin), and Iressa (gefitinib). It’s too soon to recommend using this as a “treatment adjuvant” but getting a little resveratrol in your diet isn’t likely to hurt.

Of course, there is controversy in recommending an alcoholic beverage, but don’t be worried. Red grape juice packs a powerful punch, as do other foods containing resveratrol such as dark chocolate and blueberries.
